This workshop incorporates fundamentals of garment construction through the process of creating a custom skirt (inspired by the costuming of a musical whose name we can’t say three times in a row)! This three-hour session will introduce:
- Stitching basic construction seams
- Pressing techniques
- Applying an elastic waistband finish
- Decorating with ruffles, lace, and embellishments
Students will focus on constructing a basic skirt in their size, with materials and time at the end dedicated to adding their own unique customization. In learning these techniques, students not only gain a preliminary framework for creating garments, but also develop their fine motor, visualization, and creative problem solving skills!
Materials - All materials for our project will be provided! Students will use their starter sewing kit from “Machine Sewing Basics”.
Participants will supply their own sewing machine and bobbins.
Prerequisites - “Basic Machine Sewing”
Alternately, if a student has prior experience operating their own sewing machine, please contact Sophia ([email protected]) to arrange a consultation.
This workshop will not cover basics of using a sewing machine. If you're interested in this workshop, but don't know the basics, you can sign up for both workshops!
